The green cubes symbolize the nature and provide optimum microclimate in the area. The second topic is the sculptural surface which symbolizes a paper sheet / the paper is basically the main creative artistic tool by itself for every artist/.
The project is located in Dongguan, Guangdong province, China, and is a multifunctional building for art. It also has several different functions such as: art gallery, art shopping mall, creative studio space, social club area, art hotel and few small commercial buildings. The concept design for this project is representing a set of green cubes packed with sculptural surface. We designed the main façade of the building to resemble a “paper sheet”. As the first paper in the world was invented in China, and the paper itself is the main tool of an artist, we wanted to show this connection of history and art in our design of this project. This “paper sheet” façade will be made from a material called “Corian“ by Dupont and will have an interactive features.Considering the fact that the building is located between two rivers on a peninsula, it is not only the main visual point from one of the city’s main roads, but also from the opposite sides of the rivers. That is why we designed “the paper sheet” to be used for multimedia purposes, such as pictures, commercials, movies, elements or artwork from the exhibition inside the building, etc. that can be projected there. The building will have different theme of exhibitions, relaxation areas, conference halls and many more. Two patios are designed to provide natural light and friendly atmosphere for the visitors. The gallery is designed entirely in white color with wooden decorations and green areas. Some of the terraces will be usable for events, outdoors painting and relaxation.
